Cities are reopening and as I’m getting back into the groove of socializing, I’m also thinking about aspects of my quarantine life that I plan on keeping. While nearly everything was locked down, I had to come up with routines and rituals to stay sane. These are some of the ones coming with me to the ‘new normal’.
Breakfast Smoothies
I switched out time spent in traffic with time experimenting new smoothie combos. My current fav is orange, ginger, carrot, a few leaves of spinach, squeezed lime…topped off with water. I call it the “Wake Up B***H” smoothie. The mix of ginger, oranges and lime get the body’s digestive system moving, which in turn keeps me awake during unending zoom calls.
Everything Is on Fire
Sage smugding and candle lighting have become valued morning rituals that I alternate. The sage keeps me calm and connected and my vanilla scented candles awaken all the cozy comfort vibes.
Home Beauty Routines
It’s safe to say I have perfected eyebrow tweezing, nail painting and leg waxing, so much that I may not need to see a professional as often as I used to. I’ll be sharing my methods soon.
Body Stretches and Breathing Exercises
Oh yeah…I’m into yoga now—who knew? But not the crazy handstand type of yoga. I stick to the easy poses that gently help me stretch, practice my breathing and make me feel in sync with my body.
I like this breathing technique called Sitali breath. It helps keep the body cool and calm especially when I’m feeling anxious or angry. My favorite time to practice it is during a hike, when I stop to catch my breath in the middle of nature. The sounds of birds and trees make the experience unreal. To try it, inhale deeply through the mouth as though you’re sipping something through a straw, then close your mouth and exhale slowly through the nose. I practice these breaths for about 4-5 minutes.
