I’ve been obsessed with sweet potato fries for the past few weeks. After ordering them more times than I can count from my favorite vegan spot in Houston, I thought I’d try making them at home. Here goes…
You’ll need;
A sweet potato
Himalayan Pink Sea Salt
Paprika
Black pepper
A garlic clove
Avocado oil (or any oil)
How to Make Them
Peel the potato and cut it up into small fingers.
Sprinkle some avocado oil, paprika, black pepper and Himalayan pink salt over the cut fingers.
I like to use fresh garlic because the flavor is enhanced, but if you don’t want to bother, just use the powdered one.
Mix the contents with a spoon or your fingers then spread the potatoes on a flat surface that can go into an oven, like a foil tray.
The oven should be about 350°F. Leave them in there for about 10-15 minutes—they soften when they are ready. You can spread a little oil over them half-way the cooking time if they look dry.
I like mine crunchier so I poured some oil into a frying pan and let them sizzle around for about 5 minutes.
Remove excess oil with a paper-towel and enjoy your sweet spicy snack.
Health Benefits
Besides being a delicious vegan, gluten-free option, sweet potato fries are a good source of vitamin C, which helps support your immune system and produces collagen that keeps your skin looking young.
They might be very sweet, but sweet potatoes are released into blood sugar slowly, and this prevents those rapid blood sugar increases that cause fatigue and weight gain. Also, that orange color is supplied by carotenoids, a nutrient that keeps your eyes in good shape.
