You prolly have that friend that makes you wonder how they manage to look On Point all the time. Am I one of those friends?…lol I’d love to think so? Honestly I think looking pretty and presentable all the time should be a lifestyle. People will not only give you constant respect for looking put together at all times, you could actually inspire them to look good too.
Funny story, I have a friend that likes to look extra comfortable all the time, and each time we hung out, she’d come looking casual, and I, dressed like I’m hitting up a date afterwards. Now, even though she looked decent, the fact that I was looking above average, made her seem too casual. So this one time we were doing lunch and she showed up late and her excuse was that she had to go home and change because she knew she was coming to hang with me. At first, I felt sorry for making her feel less confident about her appearance, and then I thought, hey, I just inspired someone to want to look pretty…I’ll take it.
I have come to accept that there are a lot of people that struggle with trying to look stylish. They want to look better, but they just don’t know how to get creative. So, I’m going to give you 10 tips on how to Up your game, and look On Fleek 24/7.
- Organize your closet.
You want to set up your clothes in a way that makes them easy for you to see. I like to organize mine according to styles, as in dresses together, tops together and so on. This way, when in the mood for wearing a skirt, I get to look at all my skirts and get to pick what look I’m going for. Also, I prefer hangers over folding cos some clothes can hide…for real. And finally, when you have all your clothes in clear sight, it’s easier to mix and match outfits, instead of wearing the same set every time.
- Pin stylish looks for future reference
Half of my phone images are screenshots of style inspo. I especially like the ones of clothes that look similar to mine, cos that way I get to recreate those looks. Also, you can follow bloggers like yours truly, and preferably those who have your body type to get a few tips on how to work your shape.
- A.C.C.E.S.S.O.R.I.Z.E.
I can’t stress enough how a killer accessory can take you from casual to chic in seconds. Invest in some show stopping shoes, statement necklaces, colorful belts, designer sunglasses, a classy watch, fragrance, and my personal favorite, fabulous earrings. There are so many accessories that you can play up your look with. I always carry a fancy pair of earrings in my car just in case I need to ump it up while on the go. As for shoes, I never go basic, especially with flats cos a lousy pair of cheap looking, unkempt shoes can seriously kill your vibe. You will get judged, I promise. You can tell a lot about a person by simply looking at their shoes.
Better overdressed than under dressed
It can be very belittling looking out of place in a low standards kind of way. If there is one thing I stopped doing, its asking people “What should I wear?” First of all, it’s so easy for people to say, “wear what you like” or “anything is fine” only to show up and it was a pink themed party and your azz showed up in green. Personally, when I get invited to an event like a birthday party, best believe whether it’s a party of five, or two, I am showing up dressed for a birthday bash…nothing less. Rather people ask me why I’m overly dressed, than if I just got off work.
- Trainers, sweats are for the gym
You know those people who are forever working out? They work out so much they literally live in their gym clothes waiting on their next workout instead of enjoying their hard earned body in beautiful clothes. Listen, I don’t care if you’re going for a quick run to the mall, or for a hair appointment; if you’re not going to be in the gym in the next 30 minutes, take your gym clothes off. If you just came from the gym, take your toned azz home, wash it, then put on some cute clothes and go on about your business. Remember we’re trying to up our stylish game…this is how stylish people behave.
- Shop adventurously
I always get the question, “where do you shop?” I can’t tell you how hard it is to answer this question without sounding secretive, because the answer is everywhere! Of course I have favorites like Macys and Nordstrom, but I don’t go there for everything. I’m not caught up in the whole “designer” frenzy people have going on. I just need it to be pretty and good quality. I’m one of those people who walk into a mall up for anything. A lot of small businesses have Instagram accounts. Use hashtags like #pencilskirt to find sellers. In fact lately I’m so obsessed with small business clothing labels cos they have unique designs for very affordable prices.
Shop Often
Your friend’s All White get together is coming up in a few days. So you go to the mall, looking for a white dress without knowing the chances of you finding one. Here’s two things of what could happen. Either you’re going to find a white dress that is very expensive and buy it anyway because the mall is about to close and you can’t find anything else, or you’re going to settle for a dress you don’t like because you got desperate.
Go shopping every two weeks and see what’s new and what’s on sale. If you see something you like, buy it and save it for an appropriate day so you don’t have to be the one running around in the mall when an event comes up. Remember in-season clothes are highly priced and there’s nothing worse than buying a dress only to find it being sold at half the price the next time you go to the store. Which brings me to my next point.
- Shop Online
I’m not such a fun of crowds, so online shopping goes well with me. Also, there are more advantages to the craft. First of all, you get to see everything in the shop in the comfort of your home and online items usually have more sizes. 9 out of 10 times, there’s some type of discount for online customers and finally, you don’t have to deal with clingy persuasive sales associates…lol. Also, make sure to sign up with your favorite stores to receive email alerts when there’s a big sale going on.
- Avoid buying clothes you can only wear in the house
That’s just a waste of money. If I need to feel comfi and I’m by myself, I will wear PJ’s, otherwise leggings and a nice tee it is. Whether I’m going to get my car washed or making a quick run to the grocery store, leggings always look presentable cos you can dress them up or down.
- Take care of you
Grooming is essential to complete your style. I’m talking shaped eyebrows, a good mani and pedi, clean styled hair and some make up every now and then. You don’t have to Go-Pro every time you need to groom. Home kits are a more affordable option that can do a job just as good, but every once in a while, let a specialist take charge.
You’re always awesome for reading…Hope you enjoyed this.
